PARENTS’ CLUB OF MINNESOTA MEETING

THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER AT 9:22 a.m.  by Peg Backes, who welcomed and thanked everyone for attending.

 

MINUTES of the March 3, 2007 meetings were distributed and approved.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT – Bob Peplin submitted a financial report that indicated our current reconciled balance is $6980.80.  This report was approved as submitted. 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Donations:  Peg Backes reported that a $500 donation approved at last month’s meeting was donated to the Fort Carson Iraq Care Package Fund, coordinated by the USAFA cadets.   A thank you note was received from the cadets for our support.

 

Spring Banquet:  Rick Biddle remarked that the social had gone well.  The work was spread out among several parents and that the group effort was impressive.  Patrice Klayum also reported that there has been good feedback regarding the social, and that the collective effort of all the volunteers had helped make the social the success that it was.  Some preliminary financials were discussed, but the final accounting tallies will be provided at the next meeting.

 

Discussion was held on whether it was practical to continue inviting  Congressional/Political personnel to this event, as they rarely attended.  No final decision was reached regarding this issue. 

 

Patrice suggested that in the future more recognition should be given to the ALO’s, who do an outstanding job for our cadets. 

 

Club Buttons:  Patrice Klayum reported that the first order has been placed for the new club buttons.  A newly designed button had been approved at the Parent’s Night Out on March 11.  The cost of the new club name badges will be $12.   Stephanie Thome will be in charge of taking orders for the new badges. 

 

Club Shirts:  Patrice also reported that a new logo had been voted on and approved at the Parent’s Night Out on March 11.  Several styles of apparel were selected and approved for club member’s purchase, including a polo shirt, a denim shirt, a turtleneck shirt, and a jacket.  Stephanie Thome will finalize the acquisition of these items and will coordinate the apparel sales.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Orientation:  Rick Biddle reported that plans are moving forward for the New Appointee Orientation Meeting, which will be held on Saturday, May 19.  Rick asked that all class reps arrive by 7:30 a.m. to help set up for the meeting and to be ready when the new families arrive for the meeting at 9:00 a.m. 

 

Patrice reported that the guest speaker for the meeting this year will be Col. Rolf Enger, USAFA Direction of Education.  Four cadets are scheduled to be attending the meeting to help answer questions from the appointees and their parents.

 

Summer Picnic and Tailgate:  Some discussion was held about these events, but the details will be determined and reported as we come closer to those events.  The summer picnic is scheduled for Saturday, July 21, and the Tailgate event is scheduled to follow the football game during the 2007 Parent’s Weekend.

 

Attending parents shared news about their cadets and the meeting was adjourned at 11:08 a.m.
