THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER AT 10:09 am by Rick Biddle, who welcomed and thanked everyone for attending.
MINUTES of the March 1, 2008 meeting were distributed and approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT – A financial report was submitted by Treasurer Bob Peplin that indicated our current reconciled bank balance is $5,222.09. This report was approved as submitted. Club due’s was a topic of discussion regarding the need for collection of dues beginning with the Spring Orientation event.
Action – Bob Peplin to create sign-up form for due’s in time for orientation.
CLASS REP NEWS
Class of 2008 – Mock Trial debates going on this weekend against other colleges. We are in need of a representative for the planning committee for the upcoming All Academy Ball in December 08. The initial meeting date is still TBD at this time.
Action – Patrice Klayum to attend the initial meeting unless another volunteer is found for this role.
Patrice also reported that the class of 2008 patch is available and that the class of 2009 patch will soon be available.
Class of 2009 – Leave approval for designated cadets to attend our spring orientation event is still TBD. Cadets are awaiting approvals from their respective AOC’s.
Class of 2010 – No news reported.
Class of 2011 – All cadets are reported to be very happy to be “recognized”!
CADET SHARING
Parents shared information about what and how their cadets were doing. As always, it was good to hear about what these young men and women are doing, how they are adjusting to life at the AFA, and future plans for the upcoming summer sessions and the near graduates.
ALO REPORT
Major Tom Mattison reported that 30 candidates from Minnesota have now been offered appointments to the Academy. Of these 30, 25 are appointments to the Academy, 4 are for the Academy Prep School, and 1 appointment is for an individual already attending the Prep School. To date, 13 of the appointments offered have been accepted.
CLUB VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Kirk Lewis has accepted the position of Registrar.
Deb Sturdevant has accepted the position in charge of the Newsletter.
Rita Lundquist is now in charge of Merchandise and Buttons.
We are in need of volunteer’s willing to provide mentorship roles to the new parents of the Class of 2012.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Parents Night Out (April 10th, 2008 7:00pm) Rudy Tuesday’s Eden Prairie
Spring Social/Banquet (April 26th, 2008 5:30pm) Olympic Hill Country Club Eden Prairie – Invitations to the spring social (190) have been sent and the many tasks associated with making this event a success are well underway. Highlights as follows:
-7 ALO’s will be in attendance at this event!
-We have contacted via phone almost all of the parents of appointees and provided a personal invitation to them.
-All catering has been coordinated.
-Setup will begin at 2:00pm on Saturday April 26th. Action – Anyone who can arrive early to help setup, please do so!
-Peg Backes will be the photographer.
-We are on pace for $900-$1000 in donations for the silent auction.
-We have received some nice gifts so far as well (airline tickets!).
-Plan will be to buy some prints similar to last year.
-We are in need of 2 volunteers (Action) to solicit some restaurants locally as well as in CO Springs to obtain some additional gift certificates for the silent auction.
-We would like to place links to some of the sponsors on our website. Action – Becky Tarvin to build a “Sponsor’s Page” once a list is provided to her.
- We have received 6 Bio’s and Pic’s from the Class of 2008 graduates for the bio board so far and we are in need of the remainder. Action – Patrice Klayum to send out a reminder email.
-Graduation gifts have been purchased for both the Class of 2008 and 2009. By combining the purchase we were able to obtain a discounted rate.
USAFA Parents Club of MN Meeting (May 3rd, 2008 10:00am) Officer’s Club @ Fort Snelling
Parents Night Out (May 8th, 2008 7:00pm) Don Pablo’s Richfield
Class of 2012 Spring Orientation (May 17th, 2008 10:00am) Officer’s Club @ Fort Snelling - Guest Speaker for this event will be Brig. General Susan Y. Desjardins, USAFA Commandant of Cadets! Highlights as follows:
-Plans are being coordinated (Action – Deb Martenson) for meeting with Brig. General Desjardins potentially before (Friday May 16th) and immediately after the orientation meeting.
-3 Minnesota cadets will also be attending this event. As above they are currently in process on obtaining the necessary approvals.
-All Class Reps (Action) – Your attendance at this meeting is requested. Each will be speaking about a USAFA subject (BCT, Recognition, etc) from the parents perspective.
-A letter (Action –Deb Martenson) will be sent out following the spring social to all MN club members regarding this event. Plan will be to also enclose information about upcoming events.
Summer OPS Discussion – No discussion on summer OPS.
Parents Weekend (Labor Day, 2008) – Our site has been reserved for the tailgate Discussion around this event and potential changes/improvements occurred, but was tabled until next month in an effort to focus on the spring social and orientation events.
