Great News: Guest Speaker for New Cadet Orientation May 17: Brig. General Susan Y. Desjardins, USAFA Commandant of Cadets We are very fortunate to have Brigadier General Desjardins as our guest speaker for the USAFA Class of 2012 Orientation, May 17, 2008. General Desjardins is the Commandant of Cadets for the USAF Academy. She is responsible for the training and education of cadets at the Academy and is also a 1980 Graduate. She will be your cadet’s Commandant of Cadets when they arrive at the AFA this year. This will be a unique opportunity to meet with her, ask questions and discuss your cadets future with the person in charge of the cadet program today.
General Desjardins is an experienced Air Force pilot , with over 3,800 hours of flying time in diverse aircraft from the C-17, KC-10, and T-37 to name a few. She has extensive experience at all levels of the USAF and brings a perspective from operational, staff, and government that will provide invaluable insight into the career your cadet has embarked upon.Just a portion of her career background includes command of flight squadrons, and groups, extensive operation experience in flying, evaluating and training pilots, service as program director at Strategic Air Command Headquarters, operational and plans developer for Headquarters USAF in Washington DC, a strategic planner for the Nuclear Treaties Branch Joint Staff at Washington DC, and served as deputy assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force. In addition to being a graduate of the Class of 1980 at the USAF Academy, she is graduated of numerous post graduate leadership and advanced degree programs, including the USAF Air War College and Harvard Business School General Manager Program, and two master degrees to name a few. Just a few of her numerous medals include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal , and multiple Air Force Commendations and Meritorious Service medals and many others. Her education, experience, and current responsibilities at the top of the USAF Command structure will provide a valuable look at what a great opportunities the USAF Academy is offering and what can be achieved in a successful USAF career path. full bio can be found at www.usafa.af.mil ---- |
