Cadet News!

Text Box: C1C Kent Reichle—Kent was in Minnesota for 5 weeks on a summer workstudy at Honeywell.  They accomplished the design they were assigned, and they felt good about that because it was iffy at times.  We did not get to see much of him while he was here because he stayed at an apartment in the cities, and we were out of state most of the time.  We did spend two peaceful family weekends together.  Because of the length of the workstudy, he did not get a summer leave.  Second session he was CADRE for the incoming class, he did this last year and enjoyed getting the new cadets started.  He said his element had great kids again this year. For third session he was a unit commander for CST.  He liked the field part, but hated the final paperwork.    Kent is very happy to be a firstie.  We are looking forward to seeing him for Parent's Weekend.

C2C Merideth Bensen--Meredith Benson continues to comment about her wonderful summer. During the first session she worked sports camp both in the dorms and on the soccer field. She had a lot of fun with the younger girls under her care. During her break she was able to play in several soccer games with her former teammates, connect with high school friends, and go on a family vacation to Europe. Her OPS training was in Hawaii – flew a C130 to Maui, and made her dad proud by co-piloting a helicopter with Army pilots. Hopefully some of the Minnesota kids have been using her car during her absences from campus. She’s ready to be back at school, but is unhappy about starting the first week with a Saturday class.

C2C Jason Boerboom (left) had a rewarding trip to England for Ops.

Text Box: C2C Tyler Kimes--Tyler is an Astronautical Engineering Major. This past summer he completed Operation Air Force at Whiteman AFB, MO and worked Basic Cadet Training. He is a member of cadet squadron 13. He is on the Varsity Football team this fall as an offensive tackle. He spent his leave at home in Eden Prairie in July.

C3C  Jon Backes--Jon did CST and GE for his summer programs, which provided a few fun topics around the dinner table with new recipes for chicken and rabbit. He was able to come home from July 7th till August 6th and had an extra 10 days due to a cancellation with the soaring program and we enjoyed the extra time.  We did a fishing trip with grandparents to lake of the woods, spent a week and half at our lake place, played quite a bit of golf, and had many get-togethers with family and friends. It was a great summer break for all !  Jon is in squadron 4 now and just getting into the swing of routine again with school however, he is enjoying being a 3rd class cadet!!  We look forward to parents weekend with Jon and seeing many of the Minnesota group.

C3C Joe Gagner—Joe successfully completed CST, GE and water survival training but unfortunately his session of “jump” was cancelled. He thoroughly enjoyed his leave at home and returned home just in time to help the family move across town. He is looking forward to fall semester classes including electrical engineering and German. Joe has declared an Astro Engineering major and plans to try for the alpine ski team.

C3C Mindy Mokos--After completing Global Engagement, Mindy came home for 4 weeks leave.  During that time we visited relatives in Chicago and New Jersey,  spent the Fourth at our lake cabin in Cable, Wisconsin,  hooked up with high school friends, and tried to hit all our favorite Text Box: places about town.  We had a wonderful time, but it was much too brief!  When she returned  to the Academy, Mindy completed Combat Survival Training - it wasn't the worst week of her life, but not the best either!  She is now back into academics and soccer and looking forward to a great year.  Go, Birds!

C3C Ed Zarembo--Ed spent the first part of his summer doing Global Engagement, Survival, and he got his parachute wings.  We were able to be in Colorado to see 4 of his 5 jumps.  Very hair-raising for his mom but not for him!  Ed came home for 3 weeks on July 17th and enjoyed himself at Isle Royale, the BWCA, and at home.  He's now settling into Squad 16 for another year.

C4C Todd Klayum--Todd seems to be doing well.  He caught Jack's Hack, and still has the trademark cough from the cold he "found" while in the valley.  He has not lost his sense of humor, despite a few humorless Cadre that crossed his path.  He's ready for the challenge of being a Doolie, and is doing his best on the football practice field as well.  We are really excited to be with him on Parents weekend, as he misses being home, and claims that the AFA cooking, just like Mom's can give him gastric distress.  :)  As I said, he hasn't lost his sense of humor!!
Go Falcons!
